Significant decrease number of help requests

With our clients, we see the following 3 main results after capturing and making available experiential knowledge with ELICIT Online.

1. Fewer requests for help; employees can now solve most problems on their own.

2. New employees are trained and ready to work faster.

3. Improved performance and reduced failure costs through better process and product control.

Here are a few real-world examples:

1 – Resolving technical breakdowns

Suppose an operator is standing in front of a machine that stops unexpectedly. Normally, this would mean a direct call to technical support or a process engineer. With ELICIT Online, however, the (new) operator has immediate access to the initial checks he needs to perform and the adjustments he can make independently. It also indicates when he needs to scale up to the Team Leader or TD. Thus, based on the recorded experience, the operator can now independently make an initial diagnosis and perform a simple repair or restart without delaying production any longer than necessary and without immediately calling the Team Leader or TD.

2 – Quality control and adjustments

When quality deviations occur on a production line, an operator may have needed help to make the appropriate adjustments to machine settings. Now, with 2 clicks, the operator can check which control steps to perform first, and which adjustments can and should be made by the operator. This enables the operator to make his own adjustments to process and quality deviations based on recorded experience, resulting in less waste and higher quality.

3 – Adjust raw material mix

If you observe a consistency problem with a product, the cause could be a variation in the raw material mix. Previously, this would require a lot of trial and error and consultation with experts. With ELICIT Online, operators can now check for themselves whether the problem is caused by the raw material mix. The operator then makes the adjustment, tests the result, and restores the desired product consistency without external help.

The silver wave is heading for your factory too: what now?

You’ve known for a while now. In eight months, he’s retiring. ‘Bob’, who has been working on line 3 for 38 years. Bob, who can tell at a glance whether the mixer is running right. Who can explain within five minutes why you had quality deviations last week and what you need to do to prevent them. That Bob is about to leave, and he’s taking all his knowledge with him.

POKA, EZ GO, ManualMaster and ELICIT: What’s the difference?

Knowledge management tools all promise the same thing: capturing knowledge, supporting operators, and speeding up training. But how do they actually differ? And which problems do they solve for you? We discuss three well-known solutions, POKA, EZ GO, and ManualMaster, and compare them with ELICIT.

Train faster and more effectively

Manufacturing companies are constantly looking for ways to improve efficiency and productivity. Yet they often cling to outdated training methods.

Consider the long days spent in training rooms, where employees are inundated with information about complex machines and systems. The reality is that by the time we need that second cup of coffee, our focus is already lost.

Securing the expertise of experts

With our clients, we see 3 main outcomes after experiential knowledge is captured and made available:

1. Fewer requests for help
2. New employees trained and ready to work faster
3. Improved performance and reduced cost of failure

How many questions should you ask?

It turns out that it takes an average of 110 questions to describe an operator workstation in a knowledge file.

We also know from experience that an average of 20 parameters and 72 instructions are needed to describe the core, including process monitoring and control (see figure).
